Why We Had to Build Virica
For more than a decade, consumer safety software was built around a dangerous illusion: that in a violent crisis, the victim has 15 seconds of peace to pull out a phone, unlock it with biometrics, search a grid of icons, and press a small red button.
In physical assaults, ambushes, or stalking situations, those 15 seconds do not exist. If an attacker sees someone recording them, their first reflex is to smash the phone into pieces. If an abuser suspects an emergency app is installed, they force the victim to delete it.
